ORE Catapult Glasgow – Driving Innovation and Knowledge

Background:

Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) wants to see abundant, affordable energy from offshore wind, wave and tide and has built a centre of deep technical expertise that is internationally recognised for accelerating a vibrant offshore renewable energy sector, driven by technological innovation, collaboration and enhanced knowledge, and generating low carbon, affordable power and UK economic benefit.

The centre in Glasgow is a technology innovation and knowledge centre established by the Technology Strategy Board for the identification, development and rapid commercialisation of innovative technology to deliver affordable, offshore renewable energy. ORE Catapult work in collaboration with policy makers, industry large and small, utilities, owners and the UK’s research organisations.

The Brief:

ORE Catapult’s Head Quarter offices were based in Glasgow and the company wanted the offices to reflect its ethos in being innovative and technologically advanced. ORE Catapult wanted a supplier who could provide flexible solutions for their technical workspaces in the new HQ. The technology would need to grow with the organisation, be scalable, enhance meeting and work spaces. Ultimately facilitating more productive meetings and sharing of information.

Services Provided:

The Solution:

Universal AV Services were approached and were awarded the tender after answering the brief, specifying flexible audio visual solutions to be utilised throughout the office whilst providing scalability. Universal AV Services were also able to demonstrate previous projects that had a similar specification, leaving ORE Catapult confident that Universal AV Services could meet all their technical requirements.

A team from Universal AV Services, including sales and project managers worked closely with ORE Catapult to specify precisely what would be required for each space, in order to provide effective solutions that would suit the space and requirements.

Planning and Installation:

Timescales were paramount for ORE Catapult, initial phases of the solution had to be delivered in early February 2014. Universal AV Services worked with manufacturers and ORE Catapult to ensure that these timescales could be met. Site visits and surveys were carried out in January. Manufacturers were aware of the timescales and ensured all equipment was delivered on time so installation could begin as planned in early February with the remaining phase taking place in March. The solution was delivered on time by an in-house installations team from Universal AV taking a total of 10 days with further works being specified.

One of the key influencing factors in the system proposed by Universal AV Services was the use of the EXTRON XTP system which provided the company with scalability for going forwards and future developments.

Deliverables:
Reception
Digital Signage and screens to provide information to employees and visitors.

Meeting Rooms
The EVOKO meeting room booking system was installed to provide easy booking facilities for meeting rooms, as well as indicate when the room was in use and busy.

2 x CTouch HD interactive display screens were installed into a meeting room that could either be used as one room, or split into 2. Extron controllers were used to allow for the screens to be controlled individually or as one.

Staff Break Area
A mixture of LED screens and projectors were installed into the staff break area to provide impromptu flexible meeting/presentation spaces.

Collaboration Area
2 portable projectors were provided here to allow for impromptu meetings and an informal presentation area.

Video Conferencing
Full HD, twin Screen, video conferencing solutions was installed in the boardroom, allowing users the option to conference call with other sites.

Human Resources
A screen was installed into Human Resources again to allow for flexibility and the option to present – share information easily
