Download this case study

Globe Point is an inspiring office building, located in the Temple Leeds District.

Globe Point, a new Leeds landmark, is truly an impressive building and one, which makes you stand up and take notice on approach. It is not just the façade that catches your eye; the atrium/reception area provides a real wow factor with a 4m x 2m LED Wall.

The Brief

BAM (contractors for CEG) approached Universal to collaborate on the audiovisual solutions required for the reception/atrium area, after working with the Universal team on another new build at Leeds University.  The brief was to deliver a high quality Audio Visual communication solution that would provide tenants and visitors with an effective source of information & entertainment.

The Solution

Concepts for a multimedia LED solution were produced and modified as the brief from the customer developed.  Universal simplified functionality of the solutions for ease of use whilst maintaining critical components needed by the customer.

The ground floor features high quality finishes, with a welcoming reception, café and collaborative breakout areas. The focal point of the area was to be an impressive feature wall containing a 4 by 2m LED wall.

An Absen 3660 x2058mm 1.9mm pitch LED wall was installed as you walk into reception providing an impressive focal point.  The screen and solution selected would allow one complete image to be displayed across the whole area with the option to select from 4 HDMI sources. A Clevertouch Live digital signage player was installed to provide bespoke zoned content.

The LED wall was to work completely independently of the Concierge Video wall which would sit behind the reception desk.

A 2 x 2 Samsung video wall  was installed as a corner display with two displays at either side of the apex. A single image can be displayed across all 4 displays with the option to select from 4 HDMI sources, which again would include a digital signage player to ensure bespoke zoned content.

A Barco Clickshare was also provided as a further HDMI source.  This would allow users in the building with access to wirelessly connective from a portable device such as a laptop or tablet to either of the display screens.

The solution and connectivity to the screens needed to be easy to use with no AV technician present so for familiarity and ease of use an iPad with Extron control was selected and stored in the Concierge desk from which inputs to the video sources are be selected.

Full audio was provided throughout the reception area and into the cafeteria.

The audio solution provides both background music to the café and lift lobby area along with presentation audio to the Absen LED wall.  4 pendant speakers serve the café, 4 ceiling speakers serve the lobby and two ceiling speakers for the presentation area.

These three areas are zoned and can be controlled from the Concierge area via an in wall remote controller. For voice amplification there are two digital Sennheiser Speechline wireless microphones, a hand held and a lavalier (tie clip) offering flexibility of the type of event being held. Included in the rack is an open ear music server to which subscription music can be stored.

Installation and training

The team from Universal worked with all key stakeholders for Globe Point to ensure that the installation ran smoothly, in accordance to the project plan and that all first fix through to installation and commissioning was carried out on time, within the agreed timeframe and on budget.

Programming and training took place after the installation was complete with building management team members. The concierge is able to amend content and alter feeds to the screen, create welcome messages to visitors to the building quite simply at the touch of a button.

The entrance to the building is truly striking and the LED wall provides a real focal point for the area.

Nick Fitzpatrick, Managing Director at Universal AV comments; “It was great to partner BAM construction again and be introduced to CEG to deliver the first new build in Leeds since the pandemic. A statement build for the new Temple district with technology that provides up to date communication and the wow factor in a relaxed communal area.  Flexibility and ease of use were at the core of all conversations and I believe we delivered it.”

Laura Hughes, Front of House Manager at Globe Point commented; ‘We have had a great experience with Universal AV to help us set up our media wall. Their staff were helpful when everything was being set up and they have been prompt and friendly to work with when issues have arisen.’
