Gentoo is a North East housing association based in Sunderland, they own and manage more than 28,000 homes and are one of the largest employers in Sunderland and landlords in the North East of England.
The Brief
Universal were approached by Gentoo’s Head of Communications to look at their main Boardroom. The company were looking to revamp the room and upgrade their audio visual solutions as the ones currently in situ were unreliable, and required a constant technician on site.
Planning and Installation
Working with the client, Universals account manager and project manager devised a solution that would be simple to use, and ensure that anyone could operate it with minimum training. The solution also had to fit with the new look of the room which would be modern, clean lines with maintenance free equipment.
An 84” Panasonic screen was to be focal point of the room providing the main display plus two further 55” Panasonic screens on mobile trollies with umbilical cords mirroring the main display. An Extron DTP 10 x 8 Crosspoint was used along with a Extron 12 x 8 digital audio matrix and an iPad for room control, keeping a minimal look to the system.
A Barco ClickShare wireless presentation solution was also considered the best approach to full fill the needs of the room keeping untidy cables out of the system. Along with Audio Technica System 10 wireless desk microphones and ceiling mounted condenser microphone for voice reinforcement and video conference audio.
A syndicate room connected by a folding door system was to be incorporated in the system with its own wall controller to use as a stand-alone room or when required, to be an extension to the main board room, one of the mobile units can be used for this purpose.
The timescales for the project were tight with decorators needing to be worked around. The project was started on 1st November 2016, and Universal encountered its first obstacle on the very first morning. On arrival, they were informed; because of time scales, the wall had not been re-enforced. After a quick call to the office, a Peerless floor to ceiling mount was ordered and supplied a few days later. All the equipment was installed with the system programmed ready for completion by Friday 4th November.
